Aizawl, August 22, 2024 – Mizoram authorities have ordered the closure of all schools in Aizawl district due to severe flooding, landslides, and rockfalls caused by intense rainfall. This decision, effective August 22, 2024, aims to protect students and staff from the ongoing natural disaster.
The closure was announced after careful review of weather conditions and consultations with the Indian Meteorological Department. The directive is issued under Section 30(v) and Section 2(d) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, as per Circular No. F.20016/12/2024-DMR dated July 30, 2024.
In addition to the school closures, authorities have warned that failure to comply with this order will lead to penalties under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act. This action highlights the district’s proactive approach to ensure public safety amidst the crisis.
