Shillong, August 22 – Shillong Lajong FC achieved a remarkable victory in the Durand Cup 2024 quarterfinals, overcoming East Bengal 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The win secures Lajong’s place in the semifinals and marks a historic achievement for the club.
The match began with a quick breakthrough for Shillong Lajong as Marcos Rudwere Silva scored a header from a corner in the 8th minute. East Bengal, despite controlling possession, struggled to penetrate Lajong’s disciplined defense. They managed to level the score in the 77th minute with a goal from Nandhakumar Sekar.
However, the home team regained the lead just six minutes later when Figo Syndai netted the decisive goal, finishing a low cross from Rudwere Silva. The goal sparked jubilant celebrations among the Shillong fans.
