Assam Achieves Milestone in School Infrastructure Upgrades

Guwahati, August 30, 2024 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled major strides in the infrastructure of government schools, reflecting the state’s dedication to improving educational facilities.

Highlighting progress since the 2021-22 academic year, Sarma described the state’s efforts to transform schools into “knowledge hubs” where students’ potential can thrive. The focus has been on upgrading fundamental infrastructure such as electrification, drinking water, and sanitation facilities.

A recent report reveals that the rate of electrification in government schools has skyrocketed from 90.11% in 2021-22 to 99.86% in 2022-23. Similarly, the availability of drinking water facilities has risen from 96.86% to 98.21%. The construction of separate toilets for boys and girls has also seen remarkable progress, with completion rates reaching 98.55% and 99.26%, respectively.

Further advancements include the erection of boundary walls and the installation of ramps for disabled access, ensuring that schools are both secure and inclusive. With over 44,188 schools benefiting from these enhancements, the Assam government is making significant progress in revolutionizing the state’s educational infrastructure.

“Our goal is to ensure that every school is equipped with essential facilities to create an optimal learning environment,” Sarma remarked, underscoring the government’s commitment to advancing educational standards in Assam.
