Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has sharply criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks concerning Jay Shah’s election as the Chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Singh accused Banerjee of misinterpreting the democratic process that led to Shah’s appointment, stressing that it was achieved through a legitimate voting process, not favoritism.
In his response to Banerjee’s comments, Singh stated, “Didi seems to believe that the ICC Chairmanship was simply handed over, akin to giving away power within a family. Let me clarify that Jay Shah was elected to the position. This is a result of a democratic process, not a mere appointment.”
Banerjee had previously posted a sarcastic comment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), congratulating Union Home Minister Amit Shah on his son’s new role. Her message implied criticism, stating, “Congratulations, Union Home Minister!! Your son has not become a politician but has become the ICC Chairman; a post much more important than most politicians’! Your son has indeed become very powerful, and I congratulate you on his most elevated achievement indeed! Kudos!!”
Singh’s critique highlights the ongoing political friction, with his comments aimed at defending Jay Shah’s election and addressing what he perceives as unwarranted criticism from Banerjee.
