Manipuri Meitei Association Urges Home Minister to Address Misleading Claims of Kuki Rally

Bangalore, August 30, 2024 — The Manipuri Meitei Association Bangalore (MMAB) has made an urgent plea to Home Minister Amit Shah to address what they describe as misleading claims being promoted by the Kuki Students Organization (KSO) and Kuki Inpi in an upcoming nationwide rally on August 31. The rally, set to take place at Jantar Mantar, calls for Union Territory status for Manipur, based on allegations of genocide by the Indian government—claims MMAB strongly disputes.

In a letter addressed to Shah, the MMAB expressed deep concern over the potential repercussions of the rally, warning that the unsubstantiated accusations could attract unwarranted international media attention and put high-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister and Home Minister, under scrutiny. The association attributes the ongoing violence in Manipur to illegal immigration by the Kuki community and militant actions by Kuki groups, pointing out that these matters are currently being examined by the Supreme Court.

The MMAB underscored their dedication to fostering peace and unity within Manipur, referencing their recent ‘Fields of Hope’ sports event, which aimed to bring together the state’s various communities. They cautioned that rallies based on unverified and inflammatory claims could escalate tensions and jeopardize the fragile peace process currently underway.
