Karimganj, August 31, 2024 — A successful rescue operation led by Badarpur police has freed 21-year-old Abdul Waris, a resident of Kakching, Manipur, from his captors in Karimganj district. Waris was discovered in the residence of Rashid Ahmed, a primary suspect, in Rangarpur village late Wednesday night.
Waris had been abducted in Silchar and transported to Badarpur, where his captors demanded a ransom. The rescue was prompted by a crucial lead from a UPI payment made by Waris’ family, which enabled authorities to trace the victim’s location. Rashid Ahmed, 32, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
Preliminary investigations suggest the kidnappers sought a ransom of six lakh rupees. Authorities have also detained another individual from Ahmed’s home for further interrogation as the investigation progresses. The motive behind the kidnapping remains under review.
