Makum, Tinsukia, August 30, 2024 — Assam Police achieved a significant breakthrough in their anti-drug operations with a major raid at the Makum traffic point in Tinsukia. The operation, carried out late on August 30, resulted in the confiscation of 94.25 grams of suspected heroin and Rs 60,000 in cash. Three individuals were detained in connection with the drug trafficking network.
The apprehended suspects are Norottam Tamuli from Talpathar (Bordumsa), Dombaru Moran from Dirak Kophatuli (Kakopathar), and Lakheswar Dewgohoria from Tongna Hunjan (Bordumsa). This operation is a part of the ongoing efforts by Assam Police to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The recent bust follows a series of successful drug seizures by the Special Task Force (STF), including over two kilograms of heroin in operations in Guwahati and Golaghat in July. The STF’s operations have led to the arrest of several drug peddlers, highlighting their strategic approach and effectiveness.
Pranab Jyoti Goswami, Chief Public Relations Officer of Assam Police, stated that the recent raids were based on precise intelligence. Notable seizures include a heroin stash hidden in 140 soap boxes in Goalpara and 308 grams of heroin in Guwahati’s Katabari area, destined for Barpeta and transported from Dimapur, Nagaland.
These actions demonstrate Assam Police’s relentless pursuit of drug traffickers, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring public safety and dismantling drug networks in the state.
