Manipur Police Uncover Arms Cache and Arrest KCP Cadre in Coordinated Operations

Manipur Police made a significant breakthrough on August 30 with the arrest of Laishom Sundar Singh, a cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (Taibanganba) faction. Singh, aged 38, was apprehended in Lamphel, Imphal West District, due to his alleged involvement in extortion activities.

During Singh’s arrest, authorities seized critical items including two mobile phones, a side bag, a wallet with ₹36,320 in cash, and a four-wheeler. This operation is a crucial move in disrupting the activities of the KCP faction.

In a concurrent operation, security forces conducted extensive searches across vulnerable hill and valley areas of Manipur. These operations led to the recovery of a significant arms cache, including a locally-made single-barrel gun, a country-made .22 P37 magazine, six “Pompi” guns, 15 rounds of live ammunition, and a range of grenades and tear smoke cells. Additionally, three radio sets, two tube launchers, and 37 fired cases were recovered, along with a detonator and bamboo-made Pompi ammunition from Changsang Hill in Imphal East.

These developments highlight the persistent security challenges in Manipur, with ongoing efforts by police and security forces to neutralize insurgent threats and recover illegal weapons to enhance public safety.
