Supreme Court to Hear Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Plea Today

New Delhi, September 5, 2024 — Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea will be heard by the Supreme Court today, in connection with his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the excise policy case.

Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26, 2024, and has been in judicial custody since. Although he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in a related Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, his arrest in the CBI case was upheld by the Delhi High Court. Consequently, Kejriwal remains in judicial custody until September 11.

The CBI has filed a fourth supplementary charge sheet, naming Kejriwal and five others as accused. The agency alleges that Kejriwal was a key conspirator, using kickback funds for political purposes, including channeling money into the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) funds. The charge sheet also names individuals such as K Kavitha and Raghav Magunta as co-conspirators.

Kejriwal’s previous arrest by the ED in March, followed by the CBI arrest in June, has kept him in custody, despite the interim bail granted by the Supreme Court in the ED case.
