In a significant educational reform, the Assam government has merged the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) into a single unified entity, the Assam State School Education Board. This consolidation follows the enactment of the Assam State School Education Board Act, 2024.
R. C. Jain, IAS (Retd.), has been appointed as the Chairman of the newly formed board. Jain, who was previously the Chairman of SEBA, will lead the new board for a term of three years or until he reaches the age of 70.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that this merger is designed to modernize and streamline the state’s educational framework in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Sarma expressed confidence that the new board will significantly enhance the quality and effectiveness of education in Assam.
