Sikkim Government and NID Ahmedabad Join Forces to Propel Creative Economy

On September 9, the Sikkim government formalized a partnership with the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a pivotal move to advance the creative economy in the state.

This collaboration, part of the World Bank-supported Sikkim ‘INSPIRES’ programme, seeks to improve connectivity, enhance market access, and stimulate innovation and skills development. The initiative is particularly focused on empowering women and youth across Sikkim.

Commerce and Industries Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia underscored the significance of Sikkim’s cultural heritage, including traditional arts such as ‘Thangka’ painting and carpet weaving. He expressed optimism that the partnership will open new economic avenues for local artisans and entrepreneurs.

NID Director Nahar Saif emphasized the role of design-led initiatives in nurturing local talent and driving sustainable economic growth in Sikkim.
