Pengari, Tinsukia: In a major operation on September 12, Tinsukia police successfully apprehended an NSCN (IM) cadre and seized a significant cache of ammunition. The operation, led by OC Naveen Chetia of Pengeri police station, resulted in the confiscation of three hand grenades, two pistol magazines, two pistols, and fifty live cartridges.
The NSCN cadre was taken into custody and transported to the Tinsukia Superintendent of Police’s office for further investigation. The motive behind the cadre’s entry into Assam with such weaponry remains unclear and is expected to be uncovered during police interrogation.
In a related context, on August 31, the Itanagar Capital Region Police arrested two hardcore insurgents and one overground worker in Naharlagun. The arrests followed local reports of insurgents collecting extortion money from the public, posing as NSCN-IM members
