PM Modi’s Union Cabinet Approves Universal Health Coverage for Senior Citizens Aged 70 and Above

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to offer universal health coverage to senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their economic status.

The decision, which aims to cover around 4.5 crore families and six crore seniors, provides a ₹5 lakh annual health insurance cover per family. Eligible seniors will receive a new AB PM-JAY card, facilitating access to quality healthcare services without financial constraints.

The scheme, which has already facilitated 7.37 crore hospital admissions with benefits surpassing ₹1 lakh crore, continues to demonstrate the government’s dedication to comprehensive health coverage for vulnerable populations.
