Sheikh Hasina Hit with New Charges in Wake of Protests and Resignation

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, faces a fresh legal challenge as a new case has been filed accusing her and 58 others of attempted murder. This development follows the recent political turmoil that led to Hasina’s resignation on August 5 and her subsequent departure to India.

The latest case, lodged on September 14 by 22-year-old Fahim Faisal, alleges that he was shot during a violent protest against a controversial quota system for government jobs. The incident reportedly occurred on August 4, just a day before Hasina’s government was overthrown.

The addition of this new case brings the total number of legal actions against Hasina to 155. Her mounting legal issues include 136 murder charges, seven related to crimes against humanity, and eight for attempted murder. This new accusation further compounds the political instability and legal troubles surrounding Hasina’s fall from power.
