Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Backs ‘One Nation, One Election’ Reform

Gangtok, Sikkim — Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has voiced robust support for the Union Cabinet’s recent endorsement of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ system. This proposal, emerging from a report led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, aims to synchronize elections for Lok Sabha, state assemblies, urban bodies, and panchayats within the next 100 days.

In a Facebook post, Tamang lauded the initiative, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s view that it will invigorate Indian democracy by improving efficiency and coherence. He detailed the anticipated benefits, such as economic savings, a more streamlined electoral process, and enhanced governance.

Tamang emphasized that the new system could simplify the voting process, potentially boosting voter turnout. He also suggested that it might accelerate economic growth and contribute to national stability, presenting a unified approach to elections and governance.
