The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has issued a fresh appeal for urgent and decisive action to combat the growing drug abuse problem that is affecting students and young people in Dimapur and surrounding areas. Despite ongoing efforts by the Police Department and several civil society organizations (CSOs), the Union highlighted that drug use continues to rise at an alarming pace, endangering the welfare of the community.
DNSU, which has been vocal about the issue of substance abuse, emphasized the troubling surge in the supply and sale of drugs within the district. This increase, according to the Union, is undermining efforts to create a safe and healthy environment for young people.
In their public statement, DNSU urged authorities to intensify their efforts and implement more comprehensive measures to address the drug crisis. “We call on the concerned departments to strengthen their efforts to curb this menace and escalate the fight against drugs, not only in Dimapur but throughout the state,” the Union stated.
Additionally, DNSU called on the government to establish rehabilitation centers to assist those recovering from addiction. The Union also made a heartfelt request to churches and prayer centers, urging them to initiate counseling and rehabilitation programs to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and provide support to those affected.
The increasing drug abuse in Nagaland remains a significant challenge, and DNSU’s appeal serves as a pressing reminder of the need for a multifaceted approach to address this growing crisis.
