Hundreds of participants took to the streets of Itanagar on Wednesday for a mini marathon themed ‘Run for Clean Itanagar.’ This event, part of the statewide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, commenced at the Itanagar Municipal Corporation office and concluded at Indira Gandhi Park. The marathon served as a powerful call to action for cleanliness and waste management in the city.
National award-winning athlete Jyoti Mane participated in the marathon, clinching first place in the women’s category, adding a notable achievement to the event.
Speaking at the event, Itanagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Tamme Phassang highlighted that the marathon was the culmination of a week-long campaign, which included essay competitions, tree planting initiatives, and social cleanliness drives. “Cleanliness and waste management are vital aspects of building a healthier, sustainable community,” he remarked, emphasizing the significance of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
Additionally, a tree plantation drive was conducted under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, aimed at contributing to environmental conservation. Mayor Phassang urged the municipal corporation staff and citizens of Itanagar to actively support this initiative for a cleaner and greener future.
