Dimapur Organizations Issue Ultimatum Over Abduction Incident, Demand Swift Action

Nineteen organizations based in Dimapur, including various civil society and youth groups, have issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding prompt action regarding an abduction and extortion incident that took place on October 10. The ultimatum, effective from October 12, has been directed at the Chairman of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG), urging the immediate arrest of those responsible for the crime.

During a press conference on Saturday, Tia Longchar, President of the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization, announced that the organizations have collectively endorsed a representation to be submitted to the CFMG Chairman. The groups are seeking intervention to address the violations of ceasefire ground rules by Naga political groups and are calling for the prompt apprehension of the culprits involved.

“The Cease Fire Monitoring Group oversees ceasefire agreements, and it’s important for them to take action against violations,” stated Longchar, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of peace accords.

In addition to issuing the ultimatum, the organizations adopted a five-point resolution to form an interim Dimapur-based youth tribal body. This temporary organization will remain in place until a full-fledged tribal youth body is established, in consultation with Dimapur’s apex tribal organizations. The decision aligns with a resolution passed during a public rally on August 6, aimed at fostering unity and cooperation among different communities.

According to Longchar, the interim body is designed to strengthen the collective voice of all Naga communities, ensuring inclusive representation. He noted that other youth groups, though not present at the press conference, have also pledged their support for the initiative.

In their resolutions, the organizations have called for the installation of CCTV cameras across Dimapur to bolster security measures and have demanded the removal of designated camps located within public areas. They also reiterated their support for the Naga Council Dimapur’s stance on “one government, one tax,” advocating for a streamlined and unified tax system in the region.

The ultimatum and subsequent resolutions underscore growing concerns over security and governance issues in Dimapur, with community groups seeking stronger measures to address crime and ensure peace.
