Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police Intercept Major Cache of Detonators Along Indo-Myanmar Border

In a notable operation, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram Police, successfully recovered a staggering 39,900 detonators near the Tayo River along the Indo-Myanmar border. The operation was initiated following specific intelligence regarding the transportation of war-like stores in the region.

Authorities intercepted a suspicious motorcycle during their operation, prompting the rider to abandon the vehicle and flee across the river upon realizing the impending capture. A thorough search conducted by the joint forces subsequently led to the recovery of the detonators, along with a mobile phone. An official press release emphasized that this operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence gathering, meticulous planning, and the seamless coordination between the Assam Rifles and local law enforcement.

The seized detonators have been handed over to the Mizoram Police for further investigation and necessary action.

This operation follows another significant crackdown by the Assam Rifles on October 10, where two separate raids in Champhai, Mizoram, resulted in the seizure of marijuana and Indian currency valued at approximately Rs 95.44 lakh.

In the first raid conducted in the Gen Area Zote, forces confiscated 7.36 kg of marijuana, worth Rs 5.44 lakh, and arrested a 33-year-old individual. In a subsequent operation at Vengsang, authorities recovered Indian currency totaling Rs 90 lakh and apprehended a 38-year-old Myanmar national named Thanpmanglian.

These successful operations were executed based on credible information and involved coordinated efforts between the Assam Rifles and the Excise & Narcotics department in Champhai. The apprehended individuals and the seized contraband were turned over to the Excise & Narcotics department for further legal proceedings, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and illegal activities in the region.
