Tripura Government to Equip All Colleges with Wi-Fi by December

The Tripura Government is set to enhance digital connectivity in the state by providing Wi-Fi facilities to all government colleges by December this year, as announced by IT and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. This initiative aims to improve access to educational resources for students across the state.

The announcement came during the launch of the Wi-Fi facility for 19 government colleges (Phase 1) at Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya in Udaipur, Gomati District. Minister Roy was joined by Jeya Ragul Geshan B, the Director of IT, at the event. The initial rollout connects 19 out of 30 government colleges, benefiting approximately 57,000 students. The total student population in these institutions is around 1 lakh.

Each college will have 100 Mbps internet connectivity, which will serve both students and faculty members, facilitating a more engaging learning environment. The remaining 11 colleges will also receive Wi-Fi connectivity shortly, with the goal of completing this project by December.

Minister Roy emphasized the government’s commitment to digital initiatives, mentioning existing systems like E-office and E-Cabinet, highlighting the importance of integrating technology into education. The project is backed by an investment of approximately Rs. 12.32 crore under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure.

The initiative aims to provide free internet access on college campuses, allowing students to utilize a wide range of educational resources and online content effectively. Minister Roy urged the Education Department to ensure that the Wi-Fi facilities are used effectively for educational purposes. The phased implementation of this project aims to equip each college with a robust digital framework to support enhanced learning experiences for students in Tripura.
