Bokajan, Assam – October 2024 – In a significant drug bust, Assam police seized narcotics valued at approximately Rs 10 crore and apprehended one individual in Bokajan on Thursday.
Officials reported that the operation resulted in the seizure of nearly 50,000 Yaba tablets, which were being smuggled from Manipur into Assam. The arrested suspect has been identified as Mohammad Waris, who is believed to be involved in the drug smuggling operation. Further investigations are underway, with additional details anticipated.
This incident follows another major seizure earlier this month when Assam Police intercepted a vehicle in Karimganj on October 8, recovering 80,000 Yaba tablets estimated to be worth around Rs 8 crore. According to a senior police official, the operation at the Churaibari checkpoint, situated along the Assam-Tripura border, was based on credible intelligence.
“Upon thorough search, the police team discovered eight packets of Yaba tablets hidden in the hood of the vehicle,” the official stated. Two suspects, Tinku Malakar and Sujit Deb, both from Tripura, were apprehended during that operation.
The recent drug busts underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in Assam to combat drug trafficking and keep the region safe from the increasing menace of narcotics.
