Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, attended a crucial meeting organized by the Dibrugarh Development Authority (DDA) to discuss the Final Master Plan for “Dibrugarh Vision 2045.” The meeting focused on strategic measures to combat artificial flooding while emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation.
Sonowal highlighted Dibrugarh’s anticipated expansion to 391 square kilometers, which includes numerous water bodies and rivers. He urged planners to prioritize the protection of these natural resources in the master plan.
“Our planning should be meticulous, respecting such gifts of nature, as we must take all possible steps to protect the environment. The master plan of Dibrugarh should account for this to ensure sustainable development,” he remarked.
The DDA’s vision aims to transform Dibrugarh into a modern, self-sufficient urban center while preserving its natural and historical heritage. Sonowal stressed the importance of integrating the city’s rich history into its growth strategy, stating:
“Dibrugarh has a rich heritage and history that must be considered as we work towards sustainable development.”
He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dynamic leadership, India is moving towards the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by 2047. He noted Dibrugarh’s vast economic potential, positioning it on a path to becoming a modern, sustainable urban center that enhances the quality of life for its residents.
Sonowal also pointed to government initiatives such as “Waste to Wealth” and “Waste to Energy” as essential measures for reducing pollution and managing waste effectively. He stated:
“We are blessed with a beautiful environment, and we must take scientific steps to address issues like artificial flooding and pollution. Initiatives like Waste to Wealth are crucial in ensuring a greener, healthier Dibrugarh for future generations.”
The meeting underscored the commitment to a sustainable future for Dibrugarh, balancing development with environmental stewardship.
