Awareness Program on Domestic Violence Held in Potin Village, Arunachal Pradesh
Potin Village, Arunachal Pradesh – November 6, 2024: A one-day awareness program aimed at addressing domestic violence was organized in Potin Village, Yazali Circle, with the support of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) and the Opu Aama Society. The event aimed to engage the local community in a discussion about the harmful effects of domestic violence and to explore ways to combat the issue at the grassroots level.
The chief guest, APSCW Chairperson Kenjum Pakam, stressed the importance of reaching out to rural areas with awareness campaigns. She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to empowering communities to recognize and prevent domestic violence, emphasizing the need for collective action to address this issue in the region.
Dr. Maya Pulu, a representative from APSCW, highlighted the severe psychological toll domestic violence takes on women and stressed the urgent need for mental health resources and support services to help victims recover and rebuild their lives. Her session underscored the importance of providing comprehensive care for those affected.
Advocate Tame Achum also addressed the gathering, offering valuable insights into the legal protections available to victims of domestic violence. He outlined various government initiatives aimed at supporting survivors, equipping participants with practical knowledge on how to access these resources and seek justice.
