Safiqul Islam, a businessman from Barpeta, has filed a police complaint alleging a kidnapping attempt orchestrated by his former employee, Azizul, at Hotel D Sapphire in Guwahati’s Hatigaon area.
According to Safiqul’s complaint, Azizul lured him to the hotel under the pretense of a meeting and confined him in a room along with several associates, allegedly led by land broker Haidar Ali. Safiqul claimed the incident stemmed from a financial dispute, with Azizul alleging unpaid dues of approximately ₹8 lakh.
Police investigations revealed that the hotel room was booked under Haidar Ali’s name, with CCTV footage capturing the events. Safiqul stated that the group attempted to detain him forcibly, leading him to file an FIR at the Hatigaon police station.
Haidar Ali was summoned for questioning but was released after preliminary interrogation. Police sources suggest that the incident may have been a heated confrontation over financial dealings rather than an abduction attempt. Reports indicate that the situation escalated into a physical altercation.
Authorities have assured that all angles of the case are being investigated, with further updates awaited as the probe progresses.
