Ashwani Kumar Sharma Takes Charge as IG of BSF Tripura Frontier

Ashwani Kumar Sharma assumed the position of Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier on December 16, succeeding Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, IPS, who has been repatriated to the Gujarat cadre.

Upon his arrival at the BSF Headquarters in Shalbagan, Agartala, Sharma was welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honor. In a tribute to the valor of the BSF personnel, the new IG paid homage to the martyrs, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

Following his formal induction, Sharma held discussions with senior officers to gain insights into the operational landscape and the challenges encountered along the Tripura border. He also conducted a comprehensive review of the current security situation along the state’s 856-kilometer-long international boundary with Bangladesh, emphasizing the critical need for heightened vigilance and robust operational preparedness.

The Tripura Frontier plays a crucial role in ensuring border security, given its strategic importance and the challenges associated with safeguarding such an extensive international boundary. Sharma’s appointment is expected to bring renewed focus to bolstering the frontier’s security framework.
