The Indian Army today commemorated the 53rd anniversary of Vijay Diwas, marking India’s decisive victory in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. A series of events were held at the iconic Albert Ekka War Memorial in Agartala to honor the sacrifices of our soldiers.
Tripura, a state with significant historical ties to the 1971 War, played host to several commemorative activities. The day began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony led by Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, alongside Major General Sameer Sharan Kartikeya, SM, GOC Red Shield Division, and other distinguished officials.
To further honor the spirit of the 1971 War, a unique cycling expedition, “Pedalling Patriots: II,” was undertaken. Flagged off from Dimapur on December 2nd, the cyclists covered over 500 km across three states, reaching Agartala on Vijay Diwas. Along the way, they engaged with local communities, honored veterans and veer naris, and distributed essential medical assistive devices.
The evening witnessed a grand cultural program at the Albert Ekka War Memorial, graced by Hon’ble Tourism & Transport Minister Shri Shushanta Chowdhury. The event celebrated the sacrifices of our soldiers and ignited a wave of patriotism among the attendees.
The minister honored veterans who participated in the 1971 operations and recognized the achievements of young talents through various competitions. His speech emphasized the crucial role played by the Indian Army in the 1971 War and expressed gratitude to the martyrs.
The day concluded with a Barakhana, fostering camaraderie between ex-servicemen and serving troops.
