Assam Police to File FIR Against Congress Leaders for Raj Bhavan Security Breach

The Assam Police is preparing to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress leaders following an alleged attempt to breach security at Raj Bhavan on December 18. The incident unfolded when Congress members reportedly tried to forcefully enter the Governor’s residence by breaking through police barricades, leading to a chaotic situation in the vicinity.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing the incident on his social media account, emphasized the sanctity of the Governor’s institution, urging that it remain above partisan politics. The Chief Minister further stated that a detailed investigation would be conducted, including the examination of video evidence.

“The institution of the Governor stands above partisan politics. Yesterday, Congress party leaders attempted to forcibly enter Raj Bhavan by breaching police barricades and causing chaos in the vicinity. The police will register an FIR and conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident, including a review of video recordings. Henceforth, no demonstrations will be permitted near Raj Bhavan. A designated area has already been allocated for protests and demonstrations,” the Chief Minister wrote on his official X handle.

In response to the incident, the government has announced new measures to prevent disruptions around Raj Bhavan. Going forward, demonstrations will not be permitted near the Governor’s residence, with a designated area now set aside to ensure protests and demonstrations are conducted in an organized and orderly manner.

The incident has sparked significant debate, with opposition parties questioning the government’s approach to handling dissent, while the ruling dispensation stresses the importance of maintaining decorum and security around sensitive state institutions.
