Jasprit Bumrah Leaves SCG Mid-Game Amid Injury Concerns

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, serving as the stand-in captain for the ongoing Test against Australia, was unexpectedly escorted off the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during the second session of Day 2 on Saturday. Bumrah, who had been in action post-lunch, left the field after bowling just one over. He was later seen departing the venue in a car accompanied by the team doctor and BCCI integrity manager Anshuman Upadhyay, sparking speculation about a potential injury.

While the Indian team has yet to release an official statement, it is believed that Bumrah was taken for precautionary scans. Fox Sports captured images of him leaving the SCG in his training gear, but no visible signs of discomfort were evident during his earlier spells.

Bumrah had delivered an impressive four-over spell in the morning session, claiming the vital wicket of Marnus Labuschagne, which took his series tally to 32. This achievement saw him surpass former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi’s 1977/78 record of 31 wickets, making Bumrah the most successful Indian bowler on Australian soil in a single series.

Following his morning success, Bumrah returned for a three-over stint before lunch and bowled just one over in the second session, maintaining speeds above 135 km/h and showing no signs of any physical issues. His sudden departure has raised concerns, as Bumrah has been pivotal in India’s performance throughout the series. Losing him at this critical juncture would deal a significant blow to the team.

India had a solid showing with the ball on Day 2, dismissing Australia for 181 in their first innings, gaining a slender four-run lead after posting 185 batting first. The Indian pace attack, led by Bumrah, alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, delivered a commanding performance. As the final Test unfolds, the Indian camp will anxiously await updates on their captain and lead bowler, whose fitness could play a decisive role in the outcome of the series.
