In a heartbreaking incident on Sunday, Constable Madhab Chutia of Assam Police tragically lost his life after accidentally shooting himself while handling his service weapon.
Chutia, who was serving as the Personal Security Officer (PSO) to the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Dibrugarh, was cleaning his AK-74 rifle at his residence when the weapon discharged unexpectedly. The bullet struck Chutia in the chest before ricocheting and damaging a television in the house.
Despite being rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for immediate medical treatment, Constable Chutia succumbed to his injuries. Medical staff made efforts to save his life, but the severity of the wound proved fatal.
This incident has left the police community in mourning, and authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
