In a significant move to support displaced families, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh recently distributed financial assistance to labour card holders residing in relief camps. The special event took place at the Durbar Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
Organized by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board under the Department of Skills, Labour, Employment, and Entrepreneurship, the initiative focuses on supporting the education of children from displaced families. A total of ₹2,89,10,000 was disbursed to around 5,225 beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), with each family receiving a one-time assistance of ₹5,000.
In his address, Chief Minister Singh emphasized the importance of unity and transparent governance, urging people to work together for the welfare of the land and its people, especially during difficult times. He also highlighted several welfare schemes launched by the BJP-led government, including:
- Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT): Medical assistance for the poor.
- Chief Minister Sotharabasingi Tengbang: Support for differently-abled individuals.
- School Fagathansi Mission: Free education for children of labour card holders in relief camps.
- Chief Minister-gi Artistes’ Tengbang (CMAT): Monthly pensions for 900 artistes.
- One Family One Livelihood Scheme: Supporting thousands of families.
The Chief Minister also announced skill training for 500 youths, particularly Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), for cabin crew placements funded by the Ministry of Tourism. Additionally, he shared that 17 startups have employed 432 IDPs, providing vital livelihood opportunities.
To ensure the safety and well-being of displaced individuals, the government has constructed 2,500 prefabricated houses in safer locations, including Phubala.
The event was attended by key officials, including Forest Minister Th. Biswajit Singh, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Education Minister Th. Basantakumar Singh, and other senior leaders, as well as relief camp inmates.
This initiative is a testament to the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing the needs of displaced families and promoting rehabilitation and development in the state.
