Lakshya Sen Faces Early Exit at Malaysia Open 2025, HS Prannoy’s Match Interrupted

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen, ranked 12th in the BWF, endured a tough defeat in the round of 32 at the Malaysia Open 2025, losing to Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-Jen in straight games. Sen, who reached the semi-finals at the Paris Olympics 2024, struggled throughout the match, ultimately falling 14-21, 7-21. This was the first encounter between the two players, and despite Sen’s efforts, he was unable to overcome Chi’s dominance on the court.

Meanwhile, HS Prannoy, ranked 26th, made his comeback to competitive badminton following the Paris Olympics in a thrilling encounter against Canada’s Brian Yang. Prannoy won the first game 21-12, but the match was interrupted due to a leaky roof in the stadium, with the score at 6-3 in his favor. The delay lasted for 25 minutes, and once play resumed, Yang fought back, taking an 11-9 lead in the second game. However, another disruption led to a pause, and the match will continue on Wednesday with the score at 21-12, 9-11.

On Wednesday, Malvika Bansod and Priyanshu Rajawat will also start their first-round matches. In women’s doubles, Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand continued their strong form, defeating Thailand’s Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn and Sukitta Suwachai 21-10, 21-10. The sixth-seeded duo will now face the world No. 4 pair of Zhang Shuxian and Jia Yifan in their next match.
