Central Government Releases Rs 1.73 Lakh Crore in Tax Devolution to States, Northeastern States Benefit Significantly

On January 10, the Central government disbursed a substantial Rs 1,73,030 crore in tax devolution to state governments, marking a significant increase from the previous installment of Rs 89,086 crore in December 2024. This move aims to support states in accelerating capital spending and financing essential development and welfare activities.

Among the northeastern states, Assam received the largest share of Rs 5,412.38 crore, followed by Arunachal Pradesh, which was allocated Rs 3,040.14 crore. Meghalaya received Rs 1,327.13 crore, Manipur was granted Rs 1,238.90 crore, Tripura secured Rs 1,225.04 crore, Nagaland was allocated Rs 984.54 crore, and Sikkim received Rs 671.35 crore.

Expressing gratitude, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to his official X handle, highlighting the positive impact the funds will have on the state’s infrastructure and welfare schemes. “This allocation will strengthen the state’s fiscal capacity, enabling the timely execution of key infrastructure projects, strengthening welfare schemes for marginalized communities, and driving sustainable economic growth in the region,” CM Khandu stated.

He further emphasized that the release of funds reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to the holistic development of Arunachal and the entire northeastern region.

The highest tax devolution was received by Uttar Pradesh with Rs 31,039.84 crore, while Goa received the lowest allocation of Rs 667.91 crore.
