Dhubri Municipality has distributed 1,050 ration cards to poor and underprivileged families across its 16 municipal wards, ensuring access to essential food supplies under the Assam government’s welfare programme. This effort is aligned with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s initiative to improve food security for vulnerable communities.
Debamoy Sanyal, Chairman of the Dhubri Municipal Board, shared that an additional 155 ration cards will be distributed soon to complete the process. These cards, issued by the Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs Department, allow recipients to access government-subsidized food and essential items.
The municipality operates 105 government fair price shops, with 96 in urban areas and 9 in border regions adjacent to Gaon Panchayats. Sanyal stressed the importance of reaching every eligible household and ensuring that no barriers prevent the poor from accessing these vital resources.
The distribution effort has already alleviated hardship for numerous families, with the Dhubri Municipal Board reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of welfare schemes to support the underprivileged.
