Dhubri-based artist Tarun Kumar Mitra has captured the imagination of many with his remarkable portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, titled Source of Inspiration. The artwork, a tribute to the Prime Minister’s leadership and lifestyle, has been widely appreciated in Dhubri town, with locals commending Mitra’s artistic skill and heartfelt effort.
Expressing his feelings about the creation, Mitra shared, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s picture inspires me greatly.” A government employee with Assam’s Social Welfare Department, Mitra skillfully balances his professional commitments with his passion for art. His journey as an artist began during his childhood, fostered by his mother’s encouragement, and his love for painting blossomed around Classes 4 and 5.
Over the years, Mitra’s talent has earned him recognition not only across Assam but also in various other regions, including Coochbehar, Dinhata, Goa, and Kolkata. His work has been showcased in prominent venues such as Kolkata’s esteemed Nandan gallery. In 2020, his artistic prowess reached an international audience when he was among eight Indian artists invited to Bangladesh for an exhibition and workshop commemorating the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
At his residence on RK Mission Road, Mitra has established a personal art gallery where he continues to explore new creations. Despite his busy schedule, he dedicates his evenings to painting and spends Sundays nurturing the next generation of artists by providing free art lessons to children. The classes are entirely funded by Mitra, reflecting his commitment to fostering a love for fine arts in his community.
Beyond his achievements as a painter, Mitra is also an accomplished tabla player. His performances at government events and social gatherings have left audiences enthralled, further highlighting his versatility as an artist. Renowned personalities, including artists, litterateurs, and historians, have visited his gallery and lauded his work, cementing his reputation as a cultural icon in Dhubri.
