Manipur CM N Biren Singh Denies Congress Allegations on Payments to Militant Outfit
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has dismissed accusations made by the Congress party regarding alleged payments to the Kuki-Zo militant group, the Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic), a signatory of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement. The Congress party had claimed that the state government paid money to the outfit in July 2024 amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in the region.
Responding to these allegations, Biren Singh clarified that the state government is required to maintain confidentiality on certain sensitive matters, especially those with positive intentions. He criticized the Congress for making baseless accusations, which he described as an attempt to uncover confidential government information.
“Certain matters must remain confidential for the greater good, but Congress continues to make these baseless claims in an effort to trace such information,” Biren Singh remarked. He further emphasized that any clarification regarding the issue should come from the relevant authorities and not from him.
The Chief Minister expressed his focus on governance and progress, reiterating that the state should not be distracted by opposition arguments. He pointed out that his priority is to work for the betterment of the state, highlighting his recent visit to Maram in Senapati as part of his ongoing efforts to engage with the people.
Biren Singh also took the opportunity to extend his gratitude for the ongoing Gaan-Ngai celebration, a significant cultural event in the region, further underlining his commitment to both governance and cultural preservation.
