Assam Prepares for Smooth Lok Sabha Election 2024

All preparations are underway for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024 in Assam, with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, completing all necessary arrangements to ensure a free, fair, safe, and peaceful electoral process.

To maintain strict vigilance on law and order and expenditure, the Election Commission of India has appointed Election Observers.

Live monitoring and webcasting have been arranged by the CEO, Assam, in accordance with the Election Commission of India’s directives, to oversee polling day proceedings.

Webcasting will cover all 5,509 polling stations, enabling real-time monitoring by relevant authorities.

Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) have been provided at all polling stations, including drinking water, furniture, waiting sheds, toilets, lighting, creche facilities for children, proper signage, ramps for PwD voters and senior citizens, and voter facilitation posters.

Special arrangements, such as transport facilities and assistance from volunteers, including wheelchairs for PwD electors and senior citizens, have been made at polling stations.

The Saksham mobile app is available for PwD voters to register for transportation online.Various IT applications, including the Voter Helpline App, KYCECI App, cVIGIL app, and Election Helpline number 1950, are accessible to voters for assistance during the election process.

A total of 40,004 Polling and Presiding officers will be engaged, along with 10,001 Ballot Units (BUs), 10,001 Control Units (CUs), and 10,001 VVPATs.Micro-Observers have been deputed for critical polling stations, with the Mock Poll scheduled to begin 90 minutes before polling commences.

In Phase 1, 35 candidates will contest across 5 High Priority Constituencies (HPCs), namely Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat.There are a total of 8,647,869 electors in the polling constituencies, including 4,282,887 male electors, 4,364,859 female electors, and 123 third-gender electors.

The option of postal ballot facility has been extended to senior citizens above the age of 85 years, PwDs, and persons employed in essential services to ensure inclusivity in the election process.Awareness campaigns under SVEEP, featuring State icons and SHGs, have been conducted to encourage voter turnout. Polling will commence at 7:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM.
