Chhath Puja Begins With A Foamy Dip In Yamuna
Toxic foam was found floating on the Yamuna river near Kalindi Kunj in Delhi. On the first day of the Chhath Puja, devotees were seen taking a dip in the toxic foam floating on Yamuna river. The festival of Chhath begins with ‘Nahay Khay’, in which the devotees take a bath, wear clean clothes and prepare a prasad for the Sun god.
Chana daal and Kaddoo Bhaat is a popular prasad that devotees make on this day.
However, the formation of toxic foam in the Yamuna is not new.
Yamuna has witnessed rising pollutants levels over the years, which are the main cause of foaming. Delhi’s water supply was also affected due to rise in ammonia levels in the Yamuna.
Even after DDMA barred Chhath Puja celebrations on the banks of the Yamuna river, devotees gathered to take a dip.
