World’s best sniper ‘Wali’ joins Ukraine’s fight against Russia. Who is he?
As fighting between Russia and Ukraine showed no signs of abating, one of the world’s best snipers, ‘Wali’, arrived in war-torn Ukraine earlier this week to fight the Russian forces.
Wali, a veteran of the Royal Canadian 22nd Regiment, said he felt “like a firefighter who hears the alarm ringing” when Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called on foreigners to join the country’s fight against Russia.
As per reports, Wali killed six Russian soldiers in two days following his arrival in Ukraine on Wednesday.
In a recent interview, the famous sniper said, “I want to help them. It’s as simple as that. I have to help because there are people here being bombarded just because they want to be European and not Russian.”
40 KILLS PER DAY
Wali is considered one of the best snipers in the world because he can provide 40 kills on a productive day. On the other hand, a good sniper, on average, gets 5-6 kills per day and a great one manages to get 7-10.
Wali, a 40-year-old French-Canadian computer scientist, has served twice in the Afghanistan war between 2009 and 2011. He earned the name Wali, which means protector in Arabic, during his stint in Afghanistan.
Back home, Wali has a baby son with his wife. The baby will turn one next week while his father fights the war in Ukraine.
RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and went on to launch strikes across the country. The war has triggered a massive refugee crisis and resulted in the death of several hundred civilians in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has claimed that more than 12,000 Russian troops have been killed in the war so far.
