36th-best airport in world is Delhi Airport
Guwahati: The top-ranking Indian airport was the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, which received a 36th place finish in the 2023 Skytrax World Airport Awards. The list was created by Skytrax, a UK-based firm that operates a website that rates and reviews airlines and airports, and it ranks 100 airports from across the globe.
Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad were the only other airports in India to be listed within the top 100. Singapore Changi Airport won the prize for the best airport in 2023 after moving up from third place the previous year to first this time. The Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, which was named the greatest airport the previous year, dropped one spot to take second place. Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan, which had placed second in the rankings the year before, was in third place.
The rankings, according to the website, are determined by votes cast by aviators from all around the world during the 2022–2023 Global Airport Survey. Singapore Changi, Doha Hamad, Tokyo Haneda, Seoul Incheon, Paris CDG, Istanbul, Munich, Zurich, Tokyo Narita, and Madrid Barajas are among the top 10 airports in the world according to Skytrax in 2023.
The remaining three Indian airports on the list decreased from their positions from the previous year, with the exception of the Delhi airport, which rose from position 37 to position 36 this year. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) fell 19 positions from last year’s ranking of 65 to 84 this year. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad dropped two points from the previous year’s ranking of 63 to 65 this time around. The Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore came in at number 69 this year, down from number 61 previous year.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) and GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), both supported by the GMR Group, which owns controlling holdings, respectively, and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), which is backed by Adani, operate the airports in Delhi and Hyderabad. On the other hand, Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), a public limited company, is in charge of managing the airport in Bengaluru.
