Manish Sisodia’s Judicial Custody Extended Till April 3 In Delhi Excise Policy

Guwahati: Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will now be held in detention for an additional 14 days.

Manish Sisodia’s judicial detention in the Delhi Excise Policy case was extended on Monday by the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. Special Judge MK Nagpal extended Sisodia’s legal custody till April 3 on Monday. Arguments in this case are scheduled for March 21 about the bail petition.

Sisodia was virtually produced before the court while being detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the moment. In the case, purported anomalies in the formulation and application of GNCTD’s excise policy are at issue.

Manish Sisodia said in his bail petition to a trial judge that keeping him in detention would be ineffective because all of the recoveries had already been made.

Sisodia added that he joined the inquiry when the Central Bureau of Investigation requested it (CBI). Bail has previously been approved for the other suspects who have been detained in this investigation.

Sisodia was detained for 14 days in judicial prison on March 6 after being detained by the CBI on February 26 in connection with the liquor policy case. Earlier in the case, the ED conducted another arrest and detained Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai.

The CBI previously arrested Sisodia as part of a probe into alleged irregularities in the formulation and application of the GNCTD’s excise policy. He was committed to judicial custody until March 20 by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court.

The ED submitted its initial chargesheet in the matter last year. The agency claimed that since a FIR was submitted, taking into account the CBI case registered on the advice of Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, it has so far conducted nearly 200 search operations in this case.
