Punjab: Amritpal Singh’s Uncle & Driver Surrender in Jalandhar

Guwahati: Amritpal Singh’s uncle and driver surrendered themselves in to the Jalandhar police amid extensive search efforts to find him.

Harjit Singh, Amritpal’s uncle, and Harpreet Singh, their chauffeur, reportedly surrendered themselves in late Sunday night in the Mehatpur area of Jalandhar.

The Amritsar Rural police reportedly took both Harjit and Harpreet away.

According to reports, Harjit assisted Amritpal in seizing control of the Waris Punjab De organization, which singer-activist Deep Sidhu founded. Amritpal took over as the organization’s leader after Sidhu was killed in a vehicle mishap months earlier.

A special squad of the state police pursued the Waris Punjab Da chief’s convoy, but he was able to escape on a motorcycle on their way to Jalandhar on Saturday.

The state police tightened their security measures in an effort to apprehend the radical preacher as soon as possible on Monday. The search for him began its third day. The crackdown occurs one month after “Waris De Punjab” leader Amritpal Singh and his followers stormed a police station brandishing weapons and swords in order to free one of his aides. Six police officers were hurt during the altercation. The Punjabi government had to deal with a great deal of criticism regarding the condition of law and order following the incident.

The fugitive Khalistani commander Amritpal Singh, however, was allegedly arrested by the Punjab Police at Shahkot Police Station, according to Waris de Punjab’s legal counsel.

The suspension of mobile internet and SMS services has been extended by the Punjab administration until Tuesday noon. According to the order made by the additional chief secretary, the broadband services are not being suspended to prevent disruptions to financial operations, medical services, and other crucial services.

112 Amritpal followers have been arrested thus far. The police staged flag marches and conducted searches all over the state in their search for Amritpal.

Four of the radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh’s assistants were brought to Assam’s Dibrugarh on Sunday. The aides were identified as Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Pradhanmantri Bajeka.
