Photos Of Amritpal Singh In Different Attires Released By Punjab Police
Guwahati: The Punjab Police released pictures of Amritpal Singh on Tuesday as part of their efforts to capture the leader of the “Waris Punjab De” and a radical Sikh preacher.
The Khalistani sympathizer has not yet been arrested, Punjab’s Inspector General of Police (Headquarters), Sukhchain Singh Gill stated during a press briefing.
“There are several pictures of Amritpal Singh in different attires. We are releasing all of these pictures. I request you display them so that people can help us to arrest him in this case,” said IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill.
“We are making all efforts to arrest him. We’re hopeful that we’ll arrest him soon. Punjab Police is receiving full cooperation from other states and central agencies,” the IGP further said.
Amritpal Singh has also been the subject of a lookout circular (LOC) and non-bailable warrant (NBW).
He attended a Gurdwara in the Jalandhar district, according to a preliminary investigation by police, and then fled on a motorcycle after changing his clothes. Amritpal Singh was spotted fleeing in an SUV in Jalandhar on March 18 according to CCTV footage. He is still evading capture.
IGP Singh added that so far, 154 persons have been detained and placed under arrest. IGP Gill also appealed for assistance in apprehending Amritpal.
Harjit Singh, Amritpal’s uncle, and Harpreet Singh, their driver, reportedly turned themselves up late Sunday night in the Mehatpur neighborhood of Jalandhar.
The Amritsar Rural police reportedly took both Harjit and Harpreet away.
According to reports, Harjit assisted Amritpal in seizing control of the Waris Punjab De organization, which singer-activist Deep Sidhu founded. After Sidhu was killed in a car accident months earlier, Amritpal took over as the organization’s leader.
On the other hand, the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam is now housing as many as 10 pro-Khalistani leaders.
