Rahul Gandhi receives notice to leave Govt bungalow following his exclusion as an MP

Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has received notice from the Lok Sabha’s Housing Committee that he must leave the government bungalow that was assigned to him.

This occurs just days after his removal from office as a result of the Surat court’s decision in a criminal defamation case involving a “Modi remark” he made in 2019.

Gandhi will have 30 days to leave the national capital’s bungalow number 12 on Tughlaw Lane if he wants to escape being evicted.

Meanwhile, Congress protested around the nation when Rahul Gandhi was disqualified. The party criticised the Modi administration on the subject and vowed to pursue legal and political action.

Leaders of the Congress party took to the streets and many protesters also set fire to an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Wayanad.

Workers for the Youth Congress in Bengaluru made the decision to march to the PM Modi-to-be-opened metro station. The protesters were stopped as they marched to the Visvesvaraya metro station in Bengaluru, which is close to the City Civil Court.

The New Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi train was stopped in Punjab by the Chandigarh Youth Congress at the Chandigarh railway station. MVA MLAs in Maharashtra held a silent protest outside the State Assembly.

A massive protest march was also organised in Guwahati of Assam against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification. Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia organised the demonstration.

Rahul Gandhi was found guilty of criminal defamation for his remark about the “Modi surname,” and as of that day, he was ineligible to serve in the Lok Sabha on March 23.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was found guilty on Thursday and given a two-year prison term in a defamation case that was brought against him in 2019 over allegedly disparaging comments he made about the “Modi surname.” The judge granted him bail and deferred the punishment for 30 days in order to give him time to file an appeal with a higher court.

In the build-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections, Gandhi had allegedly remarked, “how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?” during a public rally at Kolar in Karnataka. Based on it, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi had lodged a complaint against the Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi.
