Mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Uttar Pradesh
Guwahati: The mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed was found guilty of kidnapping and murdering Umesh Pal and was given a harsh life sentence in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
According to reports, Atiq Ahmed, Dinesh Pasi, and Khan Saulat Hanif were each sentenced to life in prison in the kidnapping case by an MP-MLA court in Prayagraj, along with a fine of Rs. 5,000.
The other seven accused, including Atiq Ahmed Ashraf’s brother, have all been cleared.
The mother of Umesh Pal, Shanti Devi said, “He was sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping my son but he should be given a death sentence for killing my son. I have faith in UP CM Yogi Adityanath and the judicial system.”
Umesh Pal’s widow, Jaya Devi said, “We are satisfied with the judgment as of now. Atuq Ahmed should be given a death sentence for killing my husband. We want justice and I request UP CM Yogi Adityanath to help us. If he and his brother will survive, it will be a problem for us and the society.”
It should be noted that Umesh Pal, an attorney by trade, was a crucial witness in the 2005 murder trial of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Raju Pal.
Umesh Pal was slain outside of his Prayagraj residence in February of this year by a mob.
The former Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmed is the prime accused in the murder case.
