Assam Govt Inks MoU with 3 Firms to Set Up Sports Training, Rehab Centres

Guwahati: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday by the Assam government and at least three companies to create high-performance sports training and rehabilitation facilities in two of the state’s major cities.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah and the leaders of the three companies attended the event at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.

The three companied with whom the MoU was signed were:

  • Abhinav Futuristics Private Limited (AFL)
  • Oil India Limited (OIL)
  • Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL)

A high-performance athletics training and rehabilitation facility will be built in Guwahati and Jorhat.

While addressing at the event, CM Sarma said, “Sports have become highly competitive in our country. Only one who knows the technique and has physical fitness will be able to win any race of competition.”

He said, “We have given maximum focus on how to run the centre. So, in this entire project, we have also included five years contract for running the centre. It will be outsourced and AFL will run both the high performance training centre for five years.”

“If after five years we develop our own capacity to run it then we will run it on our own and if we can’t, we will request the foundation for further expanding it,” he added.

The centre will house every activity under one roof, assisting all athletes in improving their physical fitness and technique as they work towards greatness.

On behalf of the people of Assam, the chief minister congratulated ace pugilist Lovlina Borgohain for winning a gold trophy at the World Boxing Championship.
