CBI Summons Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi Excise Policy Scam on April 16

Guwahati: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned in by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appear for questioning on April 16 (Sunday) in relation to the Delhi Excise Policy Case.

Kejriwal has reportedly been summoned to attend at the agency’s main office on Sunday at 11 am to respond to questions regarding the case.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia is currently in jail in connection with the same issue, and law enforcement authorities have made other arrests. Sisodia was imprisoned for 14 days in judicial prison on 6 March after being arrested by the CBI on February 26 in connection with the liquor policy case. Earlier in the case, the ED conducted another arrest and detained Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai.

The AAP has strenuously denied the claim that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021–22, which grants licences to liquor sellers, favoured some dealers who reportedly paid bribes for it. Later, the rule was dropped.

A summons from the Goa Police for Kejriwal to appear for questioning on April 27 in connection with an alleged defacement of public property has also been issued.

Kejriwal declared that all AAP officials should be ready to serve jail time as the Election Commission acknowledged Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party as a legitimate national party.
