Kharge After Meeting Pawar: Opposition Ready To Fight As ‘One’
Guwahati: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge stated on Thursday that the opposition parties are prepared to fight as “one” and described the process of unifying the opposition as only the beginning.
“…To save the country and democracy and keep the Constitution safe, for freedom of speech and expression, for employment of youth and issues like inflation & misuse of autonomous bodies, we are ready to fight as one. We will talk to everyone one by one. Pawar Sahab too says the same…,” Mallikarjun Kharge said.
The Nationalist Congress Party chief and Rahul Gandhi met with Sharad Pawar, a prominent opposition figure, before the Congress chief made his comments to the media in this location.
After the meeting, Kharge took to Twitter and said, “Stronger, together! We stand united for a better, brighter and an equal future for our people. Along with Shri @RahulGandhi ji met @NCPspeaks President, Shri @PawarSpeaks ji and had a discussion on the future course of action.”
The NCP leader travelled to the capital on Thursday and joined the gathering with top Congress figures at Kharge’s house.
Days prior to the conference, Pawar reportedly caused a rift in the opposition’s unity by rejecting the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the Adani problem, which Congress has been using as a weapon to criticise the ruling BJP. Pawar claimed that there is “no need” for such a study.
After the meeting, Pawar spoke to the media and stated that the united opposition was only getting started and that more efforts will be made to include other significant opposition groups, such as Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.
“Our thinking is exactly what Kharge ji told you. But mere thinking will not help. A process needs to be started…This is just the beginning. After this, talks will be held with other important opposition parties – be it Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal or others – to try to integrate them into this process…,” Sharad Pawar told the media.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi echoed the statements made by the senior leaders, saying that, like Kharge Ji and Pawar Ji, a process for the unification of the opposition has started. “This is the beginning. All parties are committed to this process,” he said.
The Supreme Court-appointed committee will be more dependable and impartial in its investigation into the charges made in the report against the Indian conglomerate, according to Sharad Pawar, who stated earlier in April that there was “no need” for a Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation into the Adani issue.
