Russian Missile Attack on Eastern Ukraine Results in 8 Deaths
Guwahati: A Russian missile attack on a residential building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk resulted in at least 8 deaths, reports emerged on Friday.
More than a dozen more people are said to have sustained injuries in the missile attack in addition to the eight dead.
Al Jazeera reported that seven Russian S-300 missiles had been fired at Sloviansk, west of the city of Bakhmut, the site of the worst combat on the Ukrainian front line, citing Pavlo Kyrylenko, the governor of the Donetsk region.
According to Kyrylenko, there have been been eight fatalities and 21 injuries across all sites.
Ukrainian police said on Twitter that a child died in an ambulance after being pulled out from the rubble.
The attack occurs shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin approved legislation that will make it simpler to enlist civilians in the military and prevent them from evading capture if called up.
The law, which Putin signed on Friday, would forbid draftees from travelling abroad and require them to report to an enlistment office after obtaining electronic call-up papers.
