‘Smoke Bomb’ Detonated During Address by Japan’s PM Fumio Kishida

Guwahati: The Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida was targeted by a “smoke bomb,” prompting the evacuation of the area during his speech in Wakayama city.

A “smoke bomb” was reportedly thrown, according to a number of reports, including the Kyodo news agency, however there were no immediate signs of injuries or property damage at the area.

PM Kishida went to the Saikazaki port in the Wakayama prefecture to support the candidate of his ruling party in a local election. Something resembling a pipe was thrown in her direction during the prime minister’s Saturday outdoor speech.

According to reports, the area was filled with the sound of an explosion.

After the incident, the prime minister was safely evacuated. According to reports, he took cover at the site of the explosion and kept himself safe.

However, one person who was thought to be a suspect was detained at the spot of the incident.

The incident comes nine months after Kishida’s predecessor, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, was assassinated while delivering a campaign speech.
