Jairam Ramesh lashes out at PM Narendra Modi for being silent over Manipur Violence
Guwahati: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on May 18 criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining mute about the Manipur situation, which worsened after a community brawl on May 3.
The Congress leader claimed in a tweet that 15 days after the awful violence broke out in Manipur and the internet was once more prohibited for five more days, PM Modi had not issued any statements urging calm in the state.
“Not a single word issued by Prime Minister appealing for peace. Not a single visit by the Union Home Minister or any other Cabinet Minister to the state” tweets Jairam Ramesh.
The Imphal Valley was also blocked off from receiving crucial supplies due to barricades and the resulting panic among carriers.
Vehicle movement has been reinstated as the situation progressively returns to normal after nearly reaching crisis levels.
Vehicles carrying crucial supplies to and from Imphal were intervened to safeguard by the Army and Assam Rifles.
A convoy of 28 vehicles, including trucks, fuel tankers, JCBs, and others, carrying rice, sugar, pulses, and fuel travelled from Noney to Imphal on May 15 under the escort of the CRPF and Manipur Police.
The Assam Rifles provided proactive control of the area to assure the convoy’s safe passage, and it reached Imphal by afternoon in good condition. Furthermore, unmanned aerial aircraft were used to assure checking.
